Contemporary Potager Garden
Fruit and Vegetables and Flowers
This small back garden was designed as a modern potager for a client who missed her old garden and rarely used the new one. It was to be lightly planted with space to mix vegetables in amongst the perennials.
Raised vegetable beds were installed with slatted trellis screening helping to define the space better. The trellis allows scented climbers and runner beans to scramble up and also supports some of the cordon fruit trees. These were used to allow a greater variety of fruit trees in a small space. Some of the fencing was re-clad and painted to match the trellis work making the garden feel much larger and brighter.
The existing timber decking was extended and resurfaced with
Millboard deck helping to reduce the maintenance. The old paving was repurposed to provide paths and edging and the existing gravel was cleaned and relaid within the newly defined areas.
The planting design included 3 Amelanchier lamarckii multi-stem trees, providing much needed vertical interest and additional character to the garden.
A light mix of planting was devised to accommodate both the sunny and shady areas of the garden.
